On October 20th, the parallel forum of the 2023 Asia Pacific Green and Low Carbon Development Summit "Emerging Climate Change Mitigation Technologies (Energy Sector)" was held in Changsha. Experts and scholars from China, India, Sri Lanka, and Thailand gathered together to share cutting-edge technologies in the low-carbon field. These technologies play an important role in addressing global warming.

Extracting Energy from Sewage

Research has shown that energy use is the main factor in climate change. The carbon dioxide generated by the combustion of coal, crude oil, natural gas, and other fuels accounts for 60% of the global total emissions. Mitigating climate change means promoting clean energy on a large scale.

Extracting Energy from Sewage

Sewage has a temperature, which is higher than the average temperature in winter and lower than the average temperature in summer. This temperature difference can be converted into clean energy, "said He Zeyi, the chief scientist of the group. Sewage undergoes heat exchange through the Zhongyuan Smart Energy Station, converting it into energy. The heat exchange process does not cause secondary pollution to the sewage, and the comprehensive energy-saving rate reaches 67.6%. It is understood that this plan can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 7655 tons per year in the area, saving users over 4000 yuan per year.

The climate in Hunan is cold in winter and hot in summer, with a high demand for energy consumption. At present, our province's energy resource endowment is not optimal and its external dependence is high. Renewable energy technology is a powerful means to alleviate energy consumption problems.

Eliminate already emitted carbon dioxide

Is it enough to alleviate global climate change and reduce carbon emissions?

Experts present at the meeting introduced that even if global carbon emissions are reduced to zero, if we do not eliminate some of the carbon dioxide we have already emitted, it will not be enough to address the climate challenge.

Carbon capture, utilization, and storage technologies have emerged. As an emerging technology with the potential to achieve large-scale low-carbon utilization of fossil fuels, this technology separates carbon dioxide from the emission source and directly uses or stores it, thereby achieving carbon reduction.

Carbon Engineering Corporation is a national climate solution technology company and a pioneer in direct air capture (DAC) technology. China is one of the countries with the greatest potential for carbon sequestration, "said Zhang Hongxi, acting executive director of the Greater China region. The process of storing captured carbon dioxide underground requires high environmental requirements, such as long-term non icing, relatively flat terrain, and high temperatures. China can match well.

Zhang Hongxi stated that China's complete industrial chain can greatly reduce project construction costs. Currently, the company is actively coordinating with partners to promote the implementation of a million ton carbon dioxide capture factory in China.
