In August 2004, with the approval of the State Council and the Central Military Commission, the school was transferred from the military to Jilin Province and renamed as Jilin Medical College. It became a provincial public higher medical undergraduate institution and is currently the only independent comprehensive higher medical institution in Jilin Province.
