On the morning of September 27th, the State Council Information Office held a series of press conferences themed on "Promoting High-Quality Development." Zhu Yonglei, Vice Minister of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT), revealed that SARFT has developed a new tri-mode universal remote control that can simultaneously control both the television and the set-top box. They have also developed 8 micro set-top boxes the size of a USB drive that can be hidden behind the television.

Zhu Yonglei stated that in the past, set-top boxes were bulky and had to be placed externally to the television. However, the newly developed micro set-top boxes are the size of a USB drive and can be conveniently inserted into the back of the television, making them more user-friendly. Aside from micro set-top boxes, SARFT is actively encouraging operators and television manufacturers to fully integrate set-top box functionalities into televisions, achieving a unified set-top box and television experience. This initiative aims to simplify user processes, enhance user experience, and is expected to be completed with prototype development by the end of this year.

In recent years, the active user rate of television live channels has consistently risen. It is understood that in August of this year, the active user rate of television live channels nationwide increased by 10 percentage points compared to the same period last year, marking the highest value in the past three years. This positive trend reflects the continued popularity of television live channels among user groups and serves as an important reference for SARFT to push for set-top box innovation.
