On October 22nd, the CGN Nuclear Power Equipment Domestication Joint Research Center Annual Meeting and "Hualong One" Nuclear Power Equipment Industry Chain Nuclear Safety Culture Knowledge Contest, hosted by CGN Engineering Co., Ltd. and co-organized by Shanghai Electric Group, was held in Shanghai. Approximately 180 representatives from over 50 nuclear power equipment industry chain units, including regulatory bodies, the China Nuclear Energy Association, China First Heavy Industries, Harbin Electric, Dongfang Electric, and Shanghai Electric, participated in the event.
The conference, themed "Building Nuclear Safety Culture, Seeking High-Quality Development," aimed to continuously promote the construction of the nuclear power equipment industry chain around four aspects: strengthening the foundation, supplementing technology, strengthening integration, and optimizing the chain. The meeting comprehensively summarized the work of the Joint Research Center over the past year and commended outstanding member units as well as companies and individuals who excelled in the Nuclear Safety Culture Knowledge Contest.
The meeting emphasized the crucial relationship between safety and development, recognizing that "safety and quality" are paramount to the healthy development of the nuclear power industry. This foundation supports the mass construction of nuclear power projects, drives the high-quality development of upstream and downstream enterprises in the nuclear power equipment industry chain, and is the greatest risk to disruptive development. All member units of the Joint Research Center must continue to deepen nuclear safety and production safety, ensuring "absolute safety and zero accidents."
The meeting pointed out that since its establishment 15 years ago, the Joint Research Center has achieved breakthroughs in over 100 key core technologies in areas such as critical pumps and valves and their accessories, nuclear island equipment, key instruments, and systems. This has resolved "bottleneck" problems in over 1,000 sets of nuclear power equipment core technologies. The "Hualong One" new project equipment domestication rate has increased to over 95% and is equipped with 100% domestication capability for complete machinery, effectively achieving autonomous and controllable core equipment for "Hualong One."
Going forward, the Joint Research Center will continue to deepen cooperation between upstream and downstream enterprises in the nuclear power equipment industry chain, strengthen strategic coordination, promote planning alignment, and enrich the content of cooperation. By working together in areas like technological innovation, green low carbon, and digitalization, the Center aims to build a more open, vibrant, and innovative industrial chain value chain, continuously improving the comprehensive competitiveness of the nuclear power equipment industry chain.
Jin Xiaolong, member of the Party Committee and Vice President of Shanghai Electric, stated that Shanghai Electric always keeps in mind its mission of serving the country and actively fulfills its mission of serving national strategies. From the Qin Shan Nuclear Power Station units to the "Hualong One" units, Shanghai Electric, alongside industry chain members, has been steadily advancing the construction of nuclear safety culture, committed to driving high-quality development through independent innovation and creating numerous domestic and even world-leading firsts. In the future, Shanghai Electric will continue to deepen the construction of nuclear safety culture, enhance its political stance, deepen the application of achievements, foster a learning atmosphere, and uphold the commitment to nuclear safety culture and quality in nuclear power equipment. The company will also deepen collaborative development and win-win cooperation within the nuclear power equipment industry chain, contributing its electric power to the healthy and sustainable development of the nuclear energy industry.
The "Hualong One" Nuclear Power Equipment Industry Chain Nuclear Safety Culture Knowledge Contest was also held at the meeting, with 26 teams participating. After two rounds of intense competition, the Shanghai Electric Power Station team won first place in the team competition, while the Shanghai Electric Nuclear Power Group's No. 1 Machine Tool Company team won second place.
The Joint Research Center was established in 2009 with over 50 member units. Its initial purpose was to build a close, coordinated platform, leveraging the construction of mass nuclear power projects to gradually enhance the independent innovation capabilities of nuclear power equipment. Currently, the number of member units has increased to 139, uniting over 5400 upstream and downstream companies participating in the construction of the "Hualong One" project. The Center has signed over 300 joint research agreements, reviewed over 10,000 joint research technical documents, conducted over 10,000 joint equipment appraisals and assessments, broken through over 400 key core technologies, obtained over 300 invention patents, and secured over 30 provincial, ministerial, and industry awards. This has achieved autonomous and controllable core technology for over 1,000 sets of high-end nuclear power equipment, effectively enhancing the resilience and safety of the nuclear power equipment industry chain.
