Tencent QQNT9.9 Experience Edition is a novelty, but Shishan has been overthrown in ten years. Is the new version better to use?

For a software, as long as it lives long enough, it will definitely become a "mountain of shit". Programmers use 'Shishan' to describe these sufficiently old products as very vivid. As long as the software is still running, don't mess with it, otherwise once there is a problem, it cannot be fixed.

QQ, as a software that has not been upgraded to a major version for ten years, has undoubtedly become a mountain of shit, and even the basic interface has begun to become inhumane. It can be seen that Tencent only makes minor modifications to the interface, and the new features are tailored to the specific needs, which is why it has formed its current appearance. Although everyone may be watching it every day, I still want to show you a screenshot.

Is Tencent not planning to do comprehensive optimization? In fact, the core reason for only minor repairs is one: no matter how well done, it will not bring user growth, nor will it bring greater value, and it is not worth investing more.

Fortunately, there has been news recently that QQ will be completely overturned and restructured, and the new version adopts a new technology that runs on all three platforms of Windows/Mac/Linux, with a set of code running on multiple ends. This is QQNT. Now it really comes.

Does it sound exciting to refactor QQ with new technology? Actually, it is a new technology that saves time, and QQNT's adoption of Electron development has also raised many doubts. Simply put, the software developed with it can be understood as a web page embedded in a browser, which enables a set of code to run on multiple ends. However, the running efficiency and resource utilization are also staggering. What exactly does the new QQ NT look like? Today I finally realized it, and now I will introduce it to everyone step by step.

1. Software installation and switching between old and new versions

At present, the latest official version is QQ9.9.0, but there are actually minor upgrades after installation. Compared to the previous 9.7.12 version, the installation directory has been changed to QQNT, with the default installation location being ProgramFiles, while the old version was installed in ProgramFiles (x86), resulting in the situation of two QQs in one PC. From the version number, it seems that QQ has not taken such a big change as a big deal.

It should be noted that QQ is upgraded smoothly, but Chat log are not. After installing the new version, you will be prompted to import the Chat log, which will not affect the chat.

If you accidentally interrupt this process, you can select Import Historical Messages from the menu and the system will continue importing. At present, I don't know what this function is doing, nor can I manually specify the location of Chat log.

2. Display of chat window functions

The chat window looks similar to the official display, so let's borrow the official display image here. In fact, except for the color and interface style, the entire interface framework is almost the same as the WeChat PC version, which is also a message list by default.

For example, when you click on a friend's profile in a contact person, their personal information will be displayed on the right. Double clicking on it will switch back to the message list, and the newly opened chat window will be at the top of the list.

For chat friends who you don't want to see temporarily, you can remove them from the message list or do some other operations.

The Chat log is displayed in a different way than before. Previously, it was displayed in the sidebar of the window, and now a new window pops up. The most obvious change between the Chat log and the old version is that the speed of searching chat content is significantly faster. Generally, the search results are displayed within two seconds.

What needs to be roast about in chat is that all of my QQ expressions have disappeared, and now I can only use the default expression. It seems that QQ emoticons will also become a new profit direction. And the QQ show on the old version of QQ chat interface has completely disappeared, completely missing.

Finally, the pictures or videos that have not been seen will show in the Chat log that they have expired, and WeChat is really coming. But the same image can be viewed on the old version of QQ.

3. Introduction to Sidebar Functions

Next, let's talk about the sidebar. My sidebar is different from the official one, and there is a missing icon. It seems that there is a new feature that has not been launched yet. I have already mentioned the message list and friend list, please continue.

A new window will pop up in Qzone. The window style is different from the old version and appears cleaner, but the presentation method remains basically the same.

QQ channel, also displays a new pop-up window. This is an internal beta version feature, which is a bit like a collection of forums, posts, and QQ groups. When receiving messages, there will also be a message list. I am concerned and not interested in this feature.

Transfer file management, which was already available in the old version, displays the files transferred during chat in a centralized manner and can be organized by type.

There are two short introductions here, one is QQ mailbox, click to open the browser to access QQ mailbox, and the other is the collection function, which can collect Chat log, which I hardly use.

4. Display of setting item functions

Next, let's talk about the settings. In general, it can be set to Light-on-dark color scheme, or switch with the system. There's nothing else to say, but it's important to note that the location where the received files are saved has changed and defaults to the download folder for Windows users. Since Windows 7, Tencent has finally remembered that there is still a user folder in the system.

There is not much to say about message notifications. Because the chat interface has been simplified, the settings here have also been simplified, such as there will be no more display of information such as' the other party is stealing... '.

Storage management, this change is significant. My Chat log has been slimmed down for many times in the old version, and finally there is 42.3GB left. I just don't understand, what are the other data of 16EB? This data volume is a bit intimidating. To popularize science, 1EB=1024TB. Even if I have been using QQ for 23 years, I wouldn't have so much data.

The storage management of QQNT has become more refined, allowing for the classification and display of files, which can be cleaned by date or type. If the computer space is tight, you can delete images and videos and only keep text.

The last setting item is the Super Color Palette, which is only open to SVIP and can modify the overall color tone of the interface. It can be seen that the interface tone is actually specifying three colors, which are then generated by the system. Are you willing to recharge SVIP for this feature?

Summary: The interface is refreshing and consumes more resources

What is the resource usage of a more concise QQ developed using Electron? The memory occupation is about 400M to 500M, and WeChat is a pair of sleeping dragons and chicken chicks. What is worth complaining about is that the chat content that has not been seen for a long time will be displayed as expired. People on the Internet are scolding WeChat, while people inside are learning WeChat.

The new version has indeed made a lot of streamlining, such as not being prompted to install Tencent Family Bucket during installation, missing QQ Show, the messy buttons around the interface, and even the classic long bar interface. These are all bought in exchange for larger memory resources. After all, everyone will have to upgrade to the new version sooner or later, so we won't evaluate the quality of the new version.
