Science and Technology Daily, Beijing, May 25th (Reporter Liu Xia) - Artificial intelligence (AI) advertising has passed the advertising Turing test for the first time. According to a report on the website of New Scientist magazine in the UK on the 24th, in a test measuring creativity and stimulating emotional response potential, AI generated advertisements performed better than typical American print advertisements. The relevant research results have been submitted to the first BrXnd Marketing and AI Conference.

The inspiration for this competition came from the initial Turing test, which challenged machines to imitate human abilities in conversations. The competition requires non manual entries to use AI tools such as ChatGPT to create and organize all images and text, and all teams are required to create print advertisements based on the description and logo of a fictional energy beverage brand named Volt. The results showed that a group of 17 marketing experts had an accuracy rate of only 57% in correctly identifying 3 advertisements mainly produced using generative AI and 7 advertisements produced by marketing students.

The rating research company System1Group rated the creative quality and ability to trigger emotional reactions of advertisements: 5 stars were the highest score and 1 star was the lowest score. The results showed that the average score for typical American print advertisements was 1.8 stars. The two AI produced advertisements received 2.1 and 2 stars respectively. The company stated that advertisements with a score of over 2 are considered 'beyond the norm, very good'.

At the conference, two experienced marketing professionals used AI tools to create 50 advertisements in approximately 10 minutes. They also produced advertisements with a score of 2.8 stars, but in the process, they utilized their professional knowledge to organize AI generated images and text.
