The history of Beiping Art College can be traced back to the establishment of the National Beijing Art School in 1918, actively advocated by the famous educator Mr. Cai Yuanpei. This is the first national art education institution in Chinese history and the beginning of modern art education in China; The predecessor of the Department of Fine Arts at North China University was the Lu Yi Department of Fine Arts, founded in Yan'an in 1938.
