Site Description: Three Gorges University was approved by the Ministry of Education and established on June 29, 2000 by the merger of the former Wuhan University of Water Resources and Electric Power (Yichang) and the former Hubei Three Gorges University. It is a key construction university during the "15th and 11th Five Year Plan" periods in Hubei Province. The predecessor of the former Wuhan University of Water Resources and Electric Power (Yichang) was the Gezhouba Hydroelectric Engineering College established in 1978, directly under the Ministry of Water Resources and Electric Power. In 1996, it merged with the former Wuhan University of Water Resources and Electric Power to form the new Wuhan University of Water Resources and Electric Power. In November 1998, it passed the project approval review by the Ministry of Education and became an important component of the "211 Project" construction university. The former Hubei Three Gorges College was formed by the merger of Yichang Normal College, Yichang Medical College, and Yichang Vocational University in 1996. The school has a history of 62 years, including 31 years of undergraduate education, 13 years of master's education, and 11 years of training doctoral students through affiliated universities such as Wuhan University. The school enrolls students from 31 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities directly under the Central Government. It is an independent college for undergraduate students of general higher education in Hubei Province. It has the right to award bachelor's and master's degrees, and the qualification to enroll foreign students, Hong Kong and Macao students. It has the qualification to recommend outstanding undergraduate students to study for master's degree free and the qualification to cultivate Master of Engineering. In 2005, the school achieved excellence in the undergraduate teaching level evaluation by the Ministry of Education; In 2008, it was approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council as a project establishment unit for granting doctoral degrees. At present, the university has become a local comprehensive university with obvious hydropower characteristics and advantages, strong comprehensive school running strength and certain social reputation.
