Site Description: East China University of Science and Technology, formerly known as East China University of Chemical Technology, has a history dating back more than 100 years to Nanyang Public School and Zhendan University. It was the first higher education institution in China known for its chemical characteristics, formed by the merger of chemical departments from universities such as Jiaotong University (Shanghai), Zhendan University (Shanghai), Datong University (Shanghai), Soochow University (Suzhou), and Jiangnan University (Wuxi) in 1952 during the national college department adjustment. In 1956, it was designated as one of the first schools in China to admit graduate students. Since 1960, it has been designated as a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. In 1993, with the approval of the National Education Commission, it was renamed East China University of Science and Technology. In June 1996, the school entered the key construction ranks of the national "211 Project". In October 1997, Shanghai participated in co construction and co management. In 2000, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to establish a graduate school, and in 2008, it was approved to build the "985 Innovation Platform". It is one of the first 22 universities in the country to implement independent enrollment reform. After more than half a century of reform and construction, it has now developed into a research-oriented national key university with distinct characteristics and coordinated development across multiple disciplines.
