Site Description: Huazhong Agricultural University is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education and under the construction of the National "211 Project". The campus is located in Shizishan, Wuchang South Lake, Wuhan City, Hubei Province, surrounded by lakes on three sides. Its predecessor was the Hubei Agricultural Affairs Academy founded by Zhang Zhidong, governor of Huguang during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty, in 1898. After several evolutions, in 1952, the Lihua Chinese Academy of Agriculture was built by all departments of the College of Agriculture of Wuhan University and Hubei Agricultural College, as well as some departments of the Agricultural College of six comprehensive university, including Sun Yat sen University. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the school was directly under the Central Ministry of Higher Education, and later implemented dual leadership from the Ministry of Agriculture and Hubei Province. In 1979, it was approved by the State Council as a national key university and directly under the Ministry of Agriculture. In 1981, with the approval of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, it became one of the first schools to have the right to confer doctoral and master's degrees. The school has the right to evaluate professors and doctoral supervisors. In 1985, it was renamed Huazhong Agricultural University. In 2000, it was transferred from the Ministry of Agriculture to the direct leadership of the Ministry of Education.
