The school dates back to the Agricultural College of National Chung Cheng University established in October 1940, renamed as the Agricultural College of Nanchang University in 1949, and established Jiangxi Agricultural College in 1952 based on it. In 1958, the General School of Jiangxi Communist Labor University was established. In 1969, Jiangxi Agricultural College and Jiangxi Communist Labor University merged. In November 1980, it was renamed Jiangxi Agricultural University.
