In 1993, it was restructured as North China Mining Higher Vocational College and enrolled students nationwide; In 1997, it was rated by the former National Education Commission as one of the 27 demonstration higher engineering colleges in China. In 2002, it was upgraded to a regular undergraduate institution and renamed North China University of Science and Technology. The college recruits regular full-time undergraduate and vocational students nationwide.
