The college was formerly known as the "Jiangsu Provincial Transportation Cadre and Staff School" founded in 1953, and was named Jiangsu Nanjing Transportation School in 1964. Since 1996, with the approval of the Provincial Department of Education, the school has been offering five-year higher vocational education. In June 2001, with the approval of the provincial government, it was independently upgraded to Nanjing Transportation Vocational and Technical College.
