In 1978, with the approval of the State Council, it was renamed Weinan Normal College. In 1983, Weinan Education College was established in the Weinan region, focusing on in-service teacher training. In March 2000, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, Weinan Normal College and Weinan Education College merged to establish a undergraduate level Weinan Normal College. The college focuses on teacher education and has the right to confer bachelor's degrees.
