In 1946, Peking University, Tsinghua University, and Nankai University, which formed the United Nations University, were demobilized and returned to the north. The Normal University was established independently in Kunming and named National Kunming Normal University. In 1950, it was renamed Kunming Normal University, and in 1984, it was renamed Yunnan Normal University. In 1999, Yunnan Normal University merged with Yunnan Education College and Yunnan Institute of Physical Education to establish a new Yunnan Normal University. Over the past 70 years since its establishment, the school has adhered to the motto of Southwest Associated University of China, which is "resolute and outstanding", and has formed a school spirit of "learning high, being upright, possessing moral integrity and wisdom".
