Recently, the reporter visited China's first zero carbon data center, China Telecom (National) Digital Qinghai Green Big Data Center, located in Hehuang New District, Haidong City, Qinghai Province. Photovoltaic car sheds, 5G unmanned zero carbon minibuses, AR simulation sand tables, inspection robots, and various green and intelligent operation methods all make people feel full of technology.

China Telecom (National) Digital Qinghai Green Big Data Center was completed and put into operation in Qinghai in July 2022, making it the first 100% clean energy traceable green big data center in China. Can achieve 100% traceable green power supply, and real-time display of 100% traceable green power supply data through big data platforms.

In the Green Power Big Data Center, a large screen displays the green power purchase certificate of the data center. The right side of the screen displays the real-time electricity usage of the data center, and the bottom left corner of the screen shows the clean energy usage status of the data center in the past 7 days.

Over the past year of operation, the data center has reduced carbon emissions by approximately 300000 tons, achieving "carbon neutrality" and truly achieving "zero carbon" emissions. This data center combines the cold climate of Qinghai with direct and indirect evaporative cooling technology, ensuring that air conditioning is not turned on for 314 days throughout the year. In addition, technologies such as waste heat recovery have kept the PUE value below 1.2, achieving a leading core indicator in China.

All the car sheds are equipped with photovoltaic panels, with a total installed capacity of over 180 kilowatts. The photovoltaic car shed generates approximately 260000 kilowatts of electricity per year. Photovoltaic panels are the power source, which is transmitted to the data room through the internal transmission network. Part of the panels are used for lighting and the other part is used to power a row of racks. The data center uses electrochemical batteries for small-scale energy storage. That is to say, we have established a small and micro grid inside the data center, using our own photovoltaic power Implement a 'source network load storage' demonstration system Su Xiaoming, Secretary of the Party Committee and General Manager of China Telecom Qinghai Company, said.

Su Xiaoming said, "This is also a practical demonstration model for a new type of flexible power grid in the future. If the second phase of the project can turn more building panels into photovoltaics, more and more of its own power generation will be generated. The lighting in the data center in the future may all use spontaneous electricity, and more and more machines will also use spontaneous electricity, forming an organic synergy between small and micro power grids and large grids

In the smart dispatch center, staff achieve unified scheduling control and intelligent operation and maintenance of the data center through remote monitoring and scheduling. The smart operation platform provides real-time monitoring of the operation of green big data centers, facilitating operators to timely conduct comprehensive monitoring and evaluation of resources, personnel, and environment in the overall operational elements.

At present, China Telecom (National) Digital Qinghai Green Big Data Center has provided high-quality computing power and storage services for users such as Baidu, Alibaba Cloud, Tencent, Huawei, Qinghai Taxation, and ICBC Qinghai Branch.

On the 10th, China Telecom Qinghai Company signed a "Data Assistance to Youth" cooperation agreement with Shanghai Lingang, Nanjing Intelligent Computing Center, Jiangxi Aitai, and others to establish strategic cooperation relationships in the field of IDC (Internet Data Center). (End)
