In June 1952, with the approval of the East China Military and Political Commission, the Law Department, Political Department, and Social Department of 9 universities including St. John's University, Fudan University, and Nanjing University merged to form the East China School of Political Science and Law. In March 1979, with the approval of the State Council, the school resumed for the second time.
