Staying at Changbai Mountain Station for 22 years: Scientific researchers are happy to see wildlife expand their "living circle"

Changbai Mountain, September 18th (Xinhua) (Lv Shengnan, Zhang Mohan) "This is a sample plot we have in the original broad-leaved Korean pine forest, with around 200 to 300 trees over 200 years old per hectare. For the types and health status of trees in the sample plot, Dai Guanhua had already understood. Taking a walk in the forest and recording some changes in the forest has become his daily habit.

Dai Guanhua is the deputy director of the National Field Science Observation and Research Station of Changbai Mountain Forest Ecosystem in Jilin Province (hereinafter referred to as Changbai Mountain Station), and this year is his 22nd year of perseverance here.

Dai Guanhua said in a recent interview with reporters that Changbai Mountain is the most well preserved and largest primitive forest distribution area in the same latitude region of the world. Especially the primitive broad-leaved Korean pine forest, which is distributed at low altitudes, is currently the largest and most fully protected forest ecosystem in China's temperate zone. It belongs to the typical zonal climax forest type in China's temperate zone, and has very prominent typicality and regional representativeness.

Changbai Mountain Station, founded in 1979, is subordinate to the Shenyang Institute of Applied Ecology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and is led by famous ecologists Wang Zhan, Yang Hanxi, etc. The station has set up 7 long-term observation sites based on the vegetation distribution in the Changbai Mountain Nature Reserve, covering four aspects of water, soil, meteorology, and biology.

It is reported that since the establishment of the station in 1979, researchers here have accumulated more than 40 years of representative continuous monitoring data of plant communities, and have undertaken multiple national level major scientific research tasks. The corresponding technical platforms have played an important role in undertaking national major scientific research tasks.

Dai Guanhua introduced that researchers rely on the Northeast Temperate Forest Large Sample Network platform to obtain field observation data and conduct research on the maintenance mechanism and ecological functions of biodiversity. This not only greatly improves and develops theories in the fields of ecology and biodiversity science, but also provides important technological support for local biodiversity protection.

Over the past 20 years of working, Dai Guanhua has deeply felt the process of local ecological environment changes. When I first arrived, the shrubs under the forest were relatively short and there were few wild animals, "Dai Guanhua said. Now, wild animals that originally appeared in the core protected area occasionally" appear "in the sample plots.

More and more wild animals are seen, which makes Dai Guanhua very happy. He believes that the gradual expansion of the living radius of animals is the strongest evidence of the continuous improvement of the ecological environment. This is the result that our researchers most want to see
