During this year's National Day, China's deep-sea exploration technicians are conducting a comprehensive exploration of the geological conditions of the 3000 meter deep seabed in China. This is the first exploration mission conducted in China so far using fully self-developed deep-sea survey equipment. At present, the survey has entered the final stage.

CCTV reporter Wang Shiyu from Taiwan: Located on the second deck of the "Offshore Oil 720" ship. Compared to the previous live broadcast, this deck appears much more crowded. This layer houses another important set of equipment in the "Sea Economy" system, which is the location of the equipment that emits seismic waves underwater. Below it hangs a high-pressure air gun.

CCTV reporter Wang Shiyu: The staff are preparing to release the high-pressure air gun into the water. Normally, there would be six rows of launch devices here, but now four rows are actually in the water. In about 10 minutes, these two rows will all be lowered and start working. At that time, this is a high-pressure area and no one can stay. So we also took advantage of this gap to come here for a close visit.

CCTV reporter Wang Shiyu: Each time a high-pressure gas cylinder emits a seismic wave signal, it releases pressure exceeding 130 standard atmospheres and is fired into the seabed through this row of hanging air guns.

CCTV reporter Wang Shiyu: We previously captured footage of an air gun working in the sea. After each signal emission, bubbles formed. However, despite the high pressure, the sound heard on the ship was actually very small. The staff told us that this is precisely the characteristic of working in deep water areas, because the water is now deep enough, and the sound has gradually been absorbed during its propagation to the seabed.

CCTV reporter Wang Shiyu: Under normal circumstances, these air guns will emit 4000 to 6000 seismic waves every day. Although they may seem like "iron lumps," their accuracy is actually very high. In general, 40-50 air guns will simultaneously emit signals, and the difference in synchronization rate should be controlled within 1 millisecond, with a maximum of 0.05 milliseconds. So these equipment need to be pulled back onto the deck for maintenance and repair at regular intervals, checking their wear and tear to ensure that it does not affect the detection.

CCTV reporter Wang Shiyu: I would also like to explain to you that although we emit seismic waves, they are actually very different from earthquakes in their true sense and do not cause any changes in the structure of the seabed strata. They are only the amount of energy used for detection.

CCTV reporter Wang Shiyu: Now that the exhaust gun has also been put into the water, it means that soon the air gun next to me will also complete the preparation work before the survey, so it will enter the final stage of exploration.
