Recently, 6 elementary school students from Taishun County, Wenzhou City received certificates of award for the 2022 World Robot Competition Finals. They achieved good results in the "MakeXStarter Zero Carbon Action" competition, which is also the only first prize in the competition for representative teams from various regions in Zhejiang Province.
A robot needs to write over a thousand programs
Six students, Zhang Zhouye, Zhang Xiaqi, Shen Xiaosheng, Lin Hongjian, Pan Yuchen, and Zheng Sen, from Luoyang Town Second Primary School and Wenxiang Primary School in Taishun County, participated in this competition, with the largest being sixth grade and the smallest being fourth grade. Six people formed three teams and successfully entered the finals after undergoing intense selection competitions.
It is understood that the World Robotics Competition is an important component of the World Robotics Congress and is widely praised as the "Olympics" of the robotics industry. The competition has been successfully held for 8 times since 2015.
Team leader Zhang Dejie introduced that robot competitions include both automatic and manual tasks, where different colored balls or blocks need to be moved to designated positions to compete for task completion quality and time. Automatic tasks require one click start of the robot, which completes the task according to the set program; The manual task is completed by the participating team members using a remote control to control the robot. Players need to assemble their own robots in advance, prepare scripts, and modify the program on site based on the selected tasks after arriving. In order to participate in this competition, they started preparing one year in advance.
Zhang Dejie said, "The participating students come from the school's robot club, and they are all veteran players who have participated in county-level and city level competitions. Some students have been learning robot making since first grade. Every step from scheme design to robot assembly and programming requires a lot of time and energy. A robot needs to write over a thousand programs, and students come to school every afternoon during the summer vacation to train and research plans. They often work overtime until 8:00 pm or 9:00 pm, "Zhang Dejie said. During the year of preparing for the competition, the plan was overturned and modified again and again, and almost every month there is a" major change "in the plan. Zhang Dejie said, "My classmates have had multiple disagreements and even arguments, but no one has ever cried out and wanted to quit. Despite the hard training, they have never been absent
Every time there's a competition, someone cries, but this time it's not
In the past, people cried every time they participated in competitions, but this time there was no finals, "Zhang Dejie said with a smile. He had participated in various competitions with his classmates, and even experienced veterans would cry in haste on the field.
Sixth grade students Shen Xiaosheng and Lin Hongjian are classmates who together formed a team called "Warm Youth". Lin Hongjian said, "Preparing for the game is very difficult, so teammates need to be warm to each other." During the interview, he told an interesting story to the reporter. Last November, they had some minor accidents while participating in the Zhejiang Provincial Trials. Lin Hongjian said, "We are in the group qualifying competition, and a group of partners who were selected fell off the chain during the competition. They even forgot to bring their equipment." Due to an accident with their partners, their ranking fell behind, which made them cry for their teammate Shen Xiaosheng and wiped tears from the competition scene. Lin Hongjian told reporters that his teammate Shen Xiaosheng accidentally fractured his right hand before the competition and came on the field with an injury. He was afraid that dragging his hind legs would affect the competition results, so he became even more nervous during the competition. Seeing his teammates crying, Lin Hongjian became the "Warm Man" in the "Warm Youth Team". Don't worry, we are so well prepared that we can definitely turn the tables against the wind with our strength! "Finally, they really counterattacked all the way and achieved a good result of third place in the selection competition, smoothly advancing.
As mentor Zhang Dejie said, due to thorough preparation in the finals, the students were very confident and finally achieved their first breakthrough of "no one shed tears in the competition".
Shen Xiaosheng, who was a "crying baby" during the provincial selection competition, suffered from acute gastroenteritis during the finals, and this time he became exceptionally strong. At that time, many people thought I couldn't compete, but in the end, I persevered, "said Shen Xiaosheng, whose performance in the competition exceeded the level of regular training. Zhang Xiaqi said, "Brothers are of one mind, and their benefits cut gold. We can face any difficulties, so I am very confident in the competition." Zhang Zhouye told reporters, "The moment when I reached the championship podium in the Zhejiang Provincial Selection Competition was the most unforgettable for me. Although I did not reach the podium in the Beijing Finals, I am not regretful at all. I hope to have better results in the future
Wenzhou Students' Artificial Intelligence Track Achieves Repeatedly
The reporter learned from the Wenzhou Education Bureau that since the beginning of this year, Wenzhou students have achieved many excellent results in various artificial intelligence competitions at all levels. As of now, 4719 people have participated in the city's artificial intelligence dream camp activity, reaching a record high in the number of people over the years; The city's digital creation and computational thinking projects received 900 entries, and 191 teams participated in the robot project.
Through the municipal track, Wenzhou students have successfully passed and stood out in provincial and national competitions. It is reported that in the 2023 Wenzhou City Teachers and Students' Information Literacy Improvement Practice Activity, 165 works were recommended, 30 teams participated in the provincial information literacy improvement practice activity, and won 18 provincial first prizes, 24 second prizes, and 41 third prizes. They also received honors such as the National Innovation Certificate and the Exchange Star Certificate. Among them, the work of four students from Shifu Road Primary School in Wenzhou, titled "Green Energy School Microsystem", also won the highest award of "Innovation Star" in the 2022-2023 National Student Information Literacy Improvement Practice Activity of the Central Electronic Education Museum's LEGO Education Science and Technology Innovation Activity.
Since Wenzhou proposed the new "Five Ones" project for artificial intelligence education in primary and secondary schools (i.e., one school, one AI course, one school, one AI team, one school, one innovation project, one school, one intelligent space, and one school, one brand activity), five aspects have been working together and steadily advancing, striving to achieve full popularization of artificial intelligence courses and full coverage of artificial intelligence laboratories.
