The Huangmaohai Bridge is a control project for the Huangmaohai Cross Sea Channel project and a three tower cable-stayed bridge for the world's largest span highway. The Huangmaohai Bridge has complex structural forms, high assembly accuracy, and a large welding workload, which pose strict requirements for the performance of steel plates; Moreover, the tight project schedule, heavy tasks, and numerous technical challenges that need to be overcome pose serious challenges to the production organization and technical support of Zhanjiang Iron and Steel.

Among them, the steel plate adopts a thermal mechanical control process to meet the performance requirements of the steel plate. Once the control is not good, it can easily affect the shape of the steel plate and pose risks.

In order to complete this task with high quality and quantity, the production, sales, and research team of Zhanjiang Iron and Steel Heavy Plate Co., Ltd. conducted face-to-face communication with users through "going global", further understanding their usage needs, and integrating the best and strongest resources to safeguard the entire batch of steel plates.

During the production process, each process is carried out in a tight manner according to the process determined through preliminary debugging, and the overall performance is stable in the initial stage. However, during the mass production process, due to uneven stress on the surface of the steel plate, thin gauge steel plates have the problem of rebounding and edge waves on the cooling bed.

For this reason, the team has visited the site multiple times to track and repeatedly discuss, and found two major "sticking points" that cause the problem - on the one hand, uneven coverage of the steel plate surface with oxidized iron scales causes uneven cooling of the plate surface; On the other hand, the steel plate undergoes undercooling during the cooling process on the upper surface. The team creatively proposed new ideas and considered improving overall temperature uniformity. Starting from increasing the final cooling temperature, steel plate cooling speed, and descaling passes, the average final cooling temperature and plate surface temperature difference gradually underwent a "positive" change, which played a positive role in improving the shape of the steel plate and solved the problem at the root.

In the process of solving such problems, the team continuously summarized and further explored better cooling solutions. They adopted a fast cooling mode instead of a fast cooling and slow cooling mode, gradually optimized the equipment structure and process parameters, and ultimately overcame the problem of cooling uniformity in MULPIC (an online integrated steel plate cooling system). After a series of measures, the steel plate has achieved good results in the production process, with stable performance and meeting user needs.

It is understood that in addition to bridge manufacturing, "Zhan Steel Thickness" also shines brightly in the construction of major green energy projects such as hydropower and wind power.
