On the afternoon of October 14th, the writer Xu Yaping's long reportage "Following the Wild Goose to Migrate" sharing meeting was held in the Liuyang Economic and Technological Development Zone. At the sharing meeting, Xu Yaping spoke deeply about the beauty and sadness of Dongting Lake. The protagonist and park enterprise figure Zhou Ziran in the book gave a speech titled "Poems and Distances of the Children of Hunan", telling the story of an ordinary person's bird protection and profound influence.
In 2011, Xu Yaping, a senior journalist from Hunan Daily who had long been concerned about the ecology of Dongting Lake, had earlier focused on the finless porpoise crisis and wetland ecological issues. Afterwards, he founded the Yueyang City Porpoise Conservation Association and mobilized civil forces to protect the porpoises, migratory birds, and elk in Dongting Lake, making important contributions to the environmental governance and ecological restoration of Dongting Lake.
The global tracking and protection of migratory birds activity "Follow the Wild Goose to Migrate" was initiated by Zhou Ziran, using the internet as a platform to mobilize people in migratory bird habitats and migration routes to protect migratory birds and the ecological environment. Since the launch of the event 12 years ago, 12 migration markers have been established in important wetlands in China and Russia, and migratory birds have been tracked over long distances 5 times. Especially during this year's migration season, Zhou Ziran led volunteers to track the Little Swan and Little White Goose from Dongting Lake to the Arctic tundra, receiving warm reception from important international institutions and research institutions such as the Northern Forum, the Russian Academy of Sciences, and the Northeastern Federal University. The 12th Migration Mark, set up on the shores of the Arctic Ocean, tells the story of China, emits its voice, and showcases the stance of Chinese society on wildlife and environmental issues to the world.
Since the establishment of the first protection sign in Dongting Lake during the "Follow Wild Goose to Migrate" activity in 2012, from Poyang Lake to Hulunbuir, from the Northern Wilderness to the Arctic, wherever migratory birds pass, there have been footprints of volunteers in the Economic and Technological Development Zone, as well as the names of excellent enterprises such as Golden Mill and Tantanxiang.
Cultural professionals and environmentally friendly individuals from various organizations such as government agencies, schools, enterprises, communities, and the Federation of Literary and Art Circles in Liuyang City and Liuyang Economic and Technological Development Zone participated in this event.
Famous party history expert Zhang Zhijian gave a high evaluation of this book club. He believes that the volunteer action of "following the geese to migrate" has great practical significance and social impact, and the form of the activity is very interesting, which is why it has such huge social benefits and widespread participation.
Peng Xiaoling, a member of the Chinese Writers Association, winner of the Ding Ling Award, and author of the novel "Tan Sitong", used the words of Zhang Wei, Vice Chairman of the Chinese Writers Association, to evaluate: "I have seen a true Hunan people, a group of Dongting Lake people who have endured hardship, patience, and bullying, and a Huxiang spirit that worries about the world, dares to be the first, applies to the world, and is resolute and responsible.
Zhou Lihe, a member of the China Photographers Association, Su Qiping, Vice Chairman of the Changsha Writers Association and Deputy Director of the Liuyang Education Bureau, and Liu Xiaoqing, a bird photographer and Vice Principal of Changsha Changjun Bilingual Experimental High School, all believe that bird watching activities in Dongting Lake can be integrated into community and primary and secondary school social activities and environmental education.
This public welfare event was jointly organized by Changjun Liuyang Experimental School, Hunan Daoyuan Academy, Hunan Mendao Culture, Xiangdong Mirror World, Liuyang Economic Development Zone Photography Association, and Xingfu Spring Community.
