From September 10th to 11th, the 2024 BRICS New Industrial Revolution Partnership Forum, jointly hosted by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the People's Government of Fujian Province, was held in Xiamen. The forum released the "BRICS Industrial Cooperation Case Collection," in which Hisense South Africa Home Appliance Industrial Park, a project jointly invested by Hisense Group and the China-Africa Development Fund, was successfully selected.
The collection of these cases stems from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's International Economic and Technical Cooperation Center's extensive collection from domestic and international industries. The aim is to exchange and share successful practices of BRICS industrial cooperation and promote mutual learning and inspiration among BRICS countries. The inclusion of the Hisense South Africa Home Appliance Industrial Park project as a successful case highlights its outstanding contributions to driving industrial upgrading and economic development in South Africa.
In 2013, Hisense and the China-Africa Development Fund joined hands to invest in the establishment of Hisense South Africa Industrial Park, creating over 1,000 direct jobs and 5,000 indirect jobs for the local area. It has also driven the development of 13 supporting companies, promoting the perfection of upstream and downstream industry chains and contributing to South Africa's reindustrialization process.
With the arrival of Hisense South Africa Industrial Park, Atlantis, where it is located, has gradually become a significant electronics and appliance production base in South Africa and has been designated as a national special economic zone. Currently, products manufactured in the industrial park not only radiate to the local South African market but are also exported to 20 African countries, including Mozambique, Zimbabwe, and Madagascar, injecting new vitality into local economic development.
It's worth mentioning that in 2022, refrigerators produced by Hisense South Africa Industrial Park were exported to the European market for the first time, marking a significant improvement in the technical skills of South African industrial workers and the factory's quality control standards under the industry chain supply chain cooperation mechanism. This achievement is not only a result of the development of Hisense South Africa Industrial Park itself but also reflects the achievements of Chinese companies actively participating in global industry chain cooperation and assisting developing countries in upgrading their industries.
The success story of the Hisense South Africa Home Appliance Industrial Park provides valuable experience for BRICS industrial cooperation and serves as a reference for other developing countries. In the future, Hisense will continue to cultivate the South African market, actively promote industrial cooperation, support South Africa's economic development, and contribute to China-Africa cooperation.
