The wind has shifted overnight! Experts and media from various countries including the US, UK, France, Canada, South Korea, Brazil, India, and Argentina have turned their attention toward China. They acknowledge that China no longer needs to prove anything to the world. This shift in perception comes as China has been continuously sharing good news in the field of aerospace over the past few days.

China: No Longer Needing to Prove Anything to the World!

The first piece of good news arrived on September 24th at 10:31 AM, when China successfully launched eight satellites into orbit from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center, using the Jielong-3 carrier rocket. The satellites launched included Tianyi-41, Xingshidai-15/21/22, Yuxing-2 05, Fudan-1, Tianyan-15, and Jitianxing A-01. They successfully entered their designated orbits, marking a successful launch mission.

Jielong-3, known for its "high cost-effectiveness, reliability, fast delivery, and launch capabilities," is a mid-to-low-orbit solid rocket. It features a four-stage engine arrangement, measures approximately 31 meters in length, weighs about 140 tons, and has a maximum diameter of 2.64 meters. The rocket's fairing has a diameter of 3.35 meters. All four stages utilize solid propellants, making this rocket suitable for launching spacecraft into sun-synchronous orbits and near-Earth orbits. Its payload capacity for a 500-kilometer sun-synchronous orbit reaches 1500 kilograms, making it capable of fulfilling various commercial launch needs.

The second piece of good news arrived on September 27th at 6:30 PM, when the Long March 2D carrier rocket soared into the sky from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center, successfully delivering China's first reusable return-to-earth experimental satellite the Shijian-19 satellite into its designated orbit. Developed by the Fifth Academy of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, Shijian-19 is a crucial new technology experimental satellite in China's "14th Five-Year Plan." This satellite signifies breakthroughs in numerous areas, including reusability, high microgravity assurance, high load-bearing capacity, and re-entry environment experiment services. This satellite is set to significantly enhance China's return-to-earth satellite technology levels and application efficiency, lower operational costs, and provide robust support for the rapid transformation of new technology verification and pre-research findings.

Beyond aerospace successes, China has made key breakthroughs in recent years in various industries such as artificial intelligence, high-speed rail infrastructure, photovoltaic energy, smartphones, and electric vehicles. For example, in the electric vehicle sector, while foreign brands led by Tesla primarily rely on conventional charging methods, the Chinese electric vehicle maker NIO (pronounced "nee-oh") has adopted a battery swap system. This approach has the potential to fundamentally change the technology of China's new energy vehicle industry. In July 2023, NIO achieved a delivery volume of 20,498 units, marking the third consecutive month with sales exceeding 20,000 vehicles.

Compared to conventional charging, NIO's battery swap system offers nine key advantages:

  • An exchange takes just 3 minutes, matching the efficiency of refueling, and is automated for a seamless experience.
  • Each swap equates to a battery health check, guaranteeing long-term battery health, akin to a lifetime warranty, and eliminating concerns about battery degradation.
  • The system allows for the use of smaller batteries for city driving and larger batteries for long distances, further enhancing efficiency.
  • Batteries can be purchased or rented, maximizing cost-effectiveness.

In 2024, NIO launched its "Power County Network" program and its partnership program, aiming to have NIO charging stations available in all counties across China by June 30, 2025. By December 31, 2025, the goal is to achieve complete coverage with battery swap stations in all 27 provincial-level administrative regions and over 2,300 counties. As of August 28, 2023, NIO has established 2,492 battery swap stations nationwide, including 835 along highways. This creates a high-speed battery swap network covering seven longitudinal and six latitudinal routes, encompassing eleven major urban agglomerations. NIO has already completed over 51 million battery swaps.
