October 10th, Apple Senior Vice President Dan Riccio will retire later this month, ending his 26-year career at the company. Riccio, who most recently served as the engineering VP overseeing the development of the Vision Pro headset, reported directly to Apple CEO Tim Cook. He joined Apple in 1998, serving as the director of product design before rising to the role of SVP of Hardware Engineering in 2012, a position he held for over eight years. He then shifted to an undisclosed project, which was later revealed to be the Vision Pro headset.

Riccio was also a key supporter of Apple's self-driving car project, which Apple abandoned earlier this year. During his time at Apple, he also oversaw the development of the AirPods, iPad Pro, and the first large-screen iPhones.

With Riccio's departure, John Ternus will take over as Apple's SVP of Hardware Engineering, assuming responsibility for the development of the Vision Pro and the thousands of engineers within the Vision Products Group. Mike Rockwell will continue to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Vision Pro and similar future headsets.

Riccio's retirement marks the end of an era at Apple. He was involved in the development of many of Apple's most iconic products, from the first large-screen iPhone to the latest Vision Pro headset. His departure will be a significant shift for Apple's hardware team, but with Ternus taking the reins, Apple's hardware development and innovation are likely to continue.
