At present, the current leader of the PLA Astronauts Brigade is General Jing Haipeng, a native of Yuncheng, Shanxi Province. He joined the army in June 1985 and is 57 years old this year. Previously, Nie Haisheng, Fei Junlong and Shen Xingyun served as the team leader from late to early.

Among the four captains, Comrade Nie Haisheng and Comrade Fei Junlong, the first of them, were awarded the rank of Major General. Comrade Jing Haipeng followed closely and also became a general. He also worked in the front-line forces and held important positions.

Comrade Shen Xingyun from Wen County, Henan Province, became the only captain who did not become a general and was the first captain to retire from the rank of colonel.

Although not awarded the rank of Major General, it does not diminish people's respect and full recognition of Comrade Shen Xingyun.

As the first captain, he was responsible for the selection of the first batch of astronauts in China and the preparation and formation of the astronaut team. He and his comrades in arms created the "four special" Human spaceflight spirit.

It was him who served a long term and led the first batch of astronauts to complete their first flight mission.

It was him who, during his tenure, was awarded the honorary title of "Heroic Astronaut Brigade" by the Military Commission, with a high level of honor that is relatively rare in the entire army.

It was he who trained three captains, Fei Junlong, Nie Haisheng and Jing Haipeng. Two comrades won the first honor of our army: the "August 1st Medal".

It is he who has never stopped taking part in public welfare activities and spreading knowledge of Human spaceflight.

Although Senior Colonel Shen Xingyun is the only captain of the PLA's astronaut corps who has not become a general, he will forever record the history of Human spaceflight in China and is recognized as a hero behind the scenes.
