Yesterday was the 11th "Beijing Wetland Day", and the Cuihu National Urban Wetland Park in Haidian District held a commemorative event to commemorate its 20th anniversary and 10th anniversary of its protective opening. Beijing Youth Daily reporter learned from the Haidian District Garden and Greening Bureau that this year, 287 species of birds were observed in the Cuihu Wetland, an increase of 65% compared to the beginning of its opening.
Stepping into the gate of Cuihu National Urban Wetland Park from the noisy street, the surrounding area immediately quieted down. Looking around, you can see green trees, flowers, and plants, with various birds flying overhead from time to time. Standing under the shade of a tree, breathing deeply, the air is particularly fresh. Tourists are enjoying the beautiful scenery of the wetlands while participating in the quiz and stamp activities, enjoying the pleasant weekend brought by wetland protection.
The Beiqing Daily reporter learned that Cuihu Wetland Park has been developed and constructed since 2003, and has now developed into a national level urban wetland park that integrates multiple functions such as biodiversity protection, water environment protection, science education, and ecological observation experience. The number of bird species observed has increased from 174 at the beginning of the park's opening to 287, including some national first-class protected birds such as the white necked crane, black stork, and yellow breasted bunting, as well as national second-class protected birds such as the flower faced duck, white spoonbill, osprey, and the Sinian sparrow. It is the largest natural breeding ground for swan geese, heron, and common cormorant in the urban area of Beijing.
At the beginning of the opening of Cuihu Wetland Park, there were a total of 330 species of higher plants, but now this number has increased to 534, an increase of over 60% compared to 10 years ago. There are also 16 species of fish found here, including yellow weasels, Mongolian rabbits, Northeast hedgehogs, Chinese toads, northern narrowmouthed frogs, black spotted side pleated frogs, golden line side pleated frogs, Chifeng brocade snakes, white striped brocade snakes, and red chain snakes, as well as rod fish, river sand pond snakehead, high bodied rhododendron, red finned primitive culter, brown nosed shrimp, curly mouth culter, and Wusu pseudobagrid. At the same time, the rich population resources of mammals, insects, fish, amphibians and reptiles, planktonic animals and plants, and benthic animals collectively constitute the complete and healthy wetland ecosystem of Cuihu Lake.
According to Liu Yingjie, Deputy Director of the Wetland and Wildlife Conservation Management Center in Haidian District, wetlands, as a unique ecosystem, have strict requirements for water depth. In order to protect water bodies, the park promotes the circulation and flow of water bodies within the park and increases the oxygen content of the water bodies; On the other hand, a model of an artificial wetland sewage treatment system will be constructed, redesigning the original water system structure of the site. Through the multiple synergistic effects of wetland soil, filling matrix, wetland flora and fauna, and microorganisms, the water body will be naturally deeply purified. By improving local water quality, the overall water quality will be improved. Multiple ecological floating islands have also been built in the park, which not only improve water quality but also provide a hidden habitat for birds.
It is reported that as a popular science base for landscaping and greening in Beijing, a base for ecological civilization promotion and education in the capital, a base for ecological environment education in Beijing, and a base for science popularization in Haidian District, Cuihu Wetland Park is committed to creating prominent and distinctive science popularization and education brands with prominent themes such as "Plant Culture Tour of the Book of Songs" and "Ecological Science Popularization Courses for Bird Homeland Series". It continues to expand the coverage and influence of science popularization and education, and has become a platform for promoting wetland natural science A green platform to showcase the achievements of ecological civilization construction in Beijing.
