Shanghai, October 7th (Xinhua) (Reporter Jiang Yu) According to the customs of Shanghai Pudong International Airport on the 7th, recently, the customs intercepted more than 13000 Texas Bacheter Ants during the supervision of incoming parcels.

On the same day, a batch of imported express mail with the declared product name of "air frying pan" attracted the attention of the customs officers at the scene. After unpacking and inspection, 37 plastic tubes containing live ants were found in the foam strips in the box, containing more than 13000 ants. After being identified by a professional customs agency, the intercepted ant species in this batch are Texas Bacheleria formosana, belonging to an alien species. It is understood that there has been no news of intercepting this species in China before.

The Texas Bacheleria formosana is a social animal with a very rare feeding method. It cuts leaves into countless small pieces and brings them back to the ant's nest for fermentation until small mushrooms grow on top. Then, the mushrooms are fed to the larvae, and the adults mainly feed on the juice flowing out of the chopped leaves. Its upper jaw is very sharp, and large worker ants can easily bite and bleed people. Once introduced and bred, it will have an impact on the ecological environment and people's health and safety.

Customs Reminder: According to the "Biosafety Law of the People's Republic of China" and the "Entry and Exit Animal and Plant Quarantine Law of the People's Republic of China" and its implementation regulations, "without approval, foreign species shall not be introduced" and "it is prohibited to carry or send live animals and plants into the country". If the regulations are violated, the customs will investigate legal responsibility in accordance with the law. (End)
