 China

From January to August this year, the national railway system has transported nearly 3 billion passengers, representing a 14.5% increase compared to the same period last year, setting a new record high. This data indicates that China's railway passenger market continues to demonstrate robust growth, effectively meeting the travel needs of the public.

Beyond the significant surge in passenger volume, railway passenger capacity has also seen substantial enhancement. The national railway network operates an average of 10,730 passenger trains daily, reflecting a 10.5% year-on-year increase. This achievement is attributed to the rapid development of railway infrastructure and the continuous improvement of railway transportation organization capabilities in recent years.

Cross-border passenger transportation has also showcased impressive performance. The Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High-Speed Railway has transported nearly 18 million cross-border passengers, marking a 46% year-on-year growth; meanwhile, the China-Laos Railway has transported 163,000 cross-border passengers. This signifies that China's high-speed rail network is becoming a vital link connecting the world, playing a crucial role in promoting regional economic development and people-to-people exchanges.

To better cater to passenger travel needs, the State Railway Group has continuously optimized the functionality of the 12306 railway service platform, enhancing the passenger ticketing experience. Currently, multiple-trip tickets and periodic tickets cover 60 lines, while tourist package tickets encompass 11 lines. The Railway Travel Code has been adopted across all high-speed trains, facilitating convenient transfers at 120 stations nationwide. Moreover, over 80 stations offer online food ordering services. Additionally, the "Quiet Car" service has been expanded to include 92 high-speed trains, and there has been a notable enhancement in train dining services.

A responsible official from the State Railway Group's Passenger Transport Department stated that the next steps involve closely monitoring passenger flow fluctuations, coordinating high-speed and conventional railway resources, and strengthening passenger transportation organization. Through dynamic optimization of train operation plans, enrichment of passenger transportation products, and elevation of station and train service quality, meticulous arrangements will be made for transportation during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays, with efforts made to provide a more enjoyable travel experience for all passengers.

The sustained robust growth of China's railway passenger market is inextricably linked to the country's recent endeavors in vigorously developing railway infrastructure, consistently enhancing service quality, and proactively promoting railway technological innovation. Looking ahead, China's railway system will remain committed to high-quality development, offering passengers a safer, more convenient, and more comfortable travel experience, contributing to the advancement of economic and social progress.
