Ant Group agreed to donate more than 40 million yuan to make the "candel" grow into a guard forest

The mangroves in coastal tidal zones not only visually observe the ebb and flow of tides, but also serve as important "filters" for the ocean and ecosystem. They play an important role in purifying seawater, preventing wind and waves, sequestering carbon and storing carbon, and maintaining biodiversity. They are known as "coastal guardians" and "marine green lungs".

Professor Wang Wenqing of Xiamen University said that a 500 meter long mangrove belt can reduce the height of waves by 50-90%, and the cost of protecting a 1 kilometer mangrove is 1000 times lower than the cost of building a 1 kilometer breakwater.

It is reported that the common variety of mangrove plants in China is "autumn eggplant". However, from a small 'autumn eggplant' to a mangrove forest guarding the coast, every step of cultivation, sowing, rooting, and sprouting is a challenge.

Due to the unique growth environment of "autumn eggplant" growing in the middle of the rising and falling tides, the survival rate of natural germination of the hypocotyl is low due to the loose soil and the rising and falling tides of Shanghai water after the hypocotyl naturally falls off. Therefore, artificial planting of mangroves generally adopts the method of sowing hypocotyls or transplanting after hypocotyl seedling cultivation.

"In the hot sun, on the muddy and soft mudflat, every step of the planting workers will sink their feet half a meter deep. They should also pay attention to the rubble under their feet and the mosquitoes flying around them, and then bend down deeply to carefully plant the" candel "into the mudflat." Recently, the reporter followed the "forest visiting group" to Fuding, Ningde City, and witnessed the hardships behind the artificial planting of mangroves.

Fujian Fuding is the northernmost natural distribution of mangroves along the coast of China. In recent years, while Fuding has effectively protected the natural distribution of mangroves, it has carried out large-scale artificial planting of mangroves, and has gone deep into the restoration and protection of mangrove ecology through measures such as beach closure, special personnel to manage and protect, and cleaning up the foreign Invasive species "Sporobolus alterniflorus" and beach garbage.

In June 2022, under the "Nature Conservation Public Welfare Partnership Plan" jointly organized by the Ministry of Natural Resources, the coastal wetland protection and restoration public welfare project - the "Blue Sea Action" was officially launched. In the "Weihai Action", the Ant Forest was donated by Ant Group, which successively supported the "Fujian Fuding Mangrove Restoration" and "Shandong Dongchu Island Seagrass Bed Restoration". Professor Wang Wenqing said, "Fuding is the first place in China to introduce social welfare funds to support local mangrove ecological restoration

It is reported that since the launch of the "Weihai Action", Ant Group has agreed to donate 46.398 million yuan to support the restoration of mangroves in Fuding, Xiapu and other places in Fujian, and plans to plant a total of more than 2.7 million "Kandelias". According to the current planting progress, 11.7572 million yuan has been allocated to complete the planting area of 1000 acres.

In addition, Ant Forest also drives netizens across the country to accumulate "green energy" through public benefit interaction "magic ocean", and pays attention to and supports the ecological protection and restoration of mangroves.

It is worth noting that at the 14th Annual Meeting of New Leaders of the World Economic Forum (also known as the "Summer Davos Forum") held in Tianjin on June 27, more than 10 enterprises including Ant Group, Mengniu Dairy, Yili Group and others were among the first to join the "Global Tree Planting Trillion Leaders Initiative - China Action". Among them, Ant Group plans to carry out 260000 hectares of ecological projects such as afforestation, conservation and tending in the ten years before 2030, which is equivalent to planting, protecting and restoring 340 million trees, helping China achieve the goal of planting, protecting and restoring 70 billion trees by 2030.
