Liu Tongxu first warmly welcomed David Waite's visit and gave an academic report titled "Soil Carbon Fixation Mechanism Driven by Microbial Mineral Interaction". David Waite also introduced his research progress and achievements in related scientific research projects. Both sides also had in-depth exchanges and discussions on the issue of "the role of iron in affecting soil organic carbon stability", expressing their willingness to jointly carry out project cooperation.

Li Fangbai hoped that the Institute and the University of New South Wales in Australia could build a mutually beneficial academic exchange platform and develop a new model of China Australia scientific research cooperation under the guidance of the integration of industry, university and research. He also stated that David Waite's visit and exchange this time have profound significance for the long-term cooperation between the two sides in the future, and have played an important role in promoting the development of disciplines and enhancing the innovation and practical capabilities of industry, academia, and research institutions.

Discussion and exchange

David Waite is an outstanding professor of the School of Civil and Environmental engineering of the University of New South Wales. In 2018, he was elected a foreign academician of the National Academy of Engineering. It mainly studies physical Chemical process in natural and engineering systems, involving advanced oxidation, electrochemistry, membrane technology and other fields. It has made outstanding contributions in improving water treatment technology, soil remediation, optimizing land management, tailings mining, and radioactive waste recycling and management, and enjoys high visibility and influence internationally.

Fang Liping, a researcher of the Institute, Li Xiaomin, a professor of South China Normal University, and other relevant researchers attended the symposium and visited the Soil science Museum of Guangdong Province.
