According to the Danxia Mountain Management Committee, the microbial investigation team led by Professor Li Wenjun from Sun Yat sen University's Danxia Mountain National Park Biodiversity Research Project (hereinafter referred to as the "Research Project") discovered the first new genus level species of bacteria in Danxia Mountain, and also the 41st new species discovered and named in Danxia Mountain; The new genus has now been officially published in the international professional academic journal "International Journal of Systematics and Evolutionary Microbiology".

Microorganisms are ubiquitous and closely related to human life, while playing an irreplaceable role in the maintenance and stability of ecosystems. The scientific research project team introduced that the discovery of a new species of Pseudomonas aeruginosa can expand people's understanding of the "tree of life", and the new species also means the increase of new genetic resources, which will further promote the development and utilization of microbial resources.

Professor Li Wenjun's team from Sun Yat sen University introduced that the discovery of the Yellow Danxia Bacillus in the forest soil of Danxia Mountain can help plant roots better adapt to the acidic soil developed on the unique sandstone of Danxia, effectively collecting nitrogen elements in the environment, and helping plants adapt to the high-temperature and arid mountain environment of Danxia landform area.

It is understood that the Guangdong Danxia Mountain Biodiversity Research Project has added microbial diversity research for the first time on the basis of previous research, conducting a more comprehensive and in-depth investigation of the biodiversity of Danxia Mountain. The microbial diversity section of this Danxia Mountain biodiversity survey includes multiple parts, including diversity investigation, conservation collection and preservation of characteristic microbial resources in the region, establishment of shared strain resource library and information database, etc. It has important strategic significance for the protection and development of microbial resources in Danxia Mountain, Guangdong.

It is reported that this is also the first time in China to conduct a systematic survey of microbial diversity in candidate areas of national parks, which will bring new ideas to the protection of species diversity in national parks and nature reserves, and expand the field of biological resource protection.

Professor Li Wenjun's team from Sun Yat sen University stated that they have currently isolated, cultivated, and preserved over 2000 cultivable bacterial strain resources, with over 400 potential new species. This indicates that the unique Danxia landform of Danxia Mountain in Guangdong has nurtured a very rich microbial resource, providing more evidence for the existence of the Danxia flora, which is worth further protection, exploration, and development.
