The invasion of foreign harmful organisms poses a threat to food security, ecological security, and economic security. Strictly preventing the entry of foreign harmful species is one of the important responsibilities of China's customs. Recently,The post office of Bingcheng Customs, affiliated with Harbin Customs, intercepted 32 live scorpions of 4 species in incoming mail, all of which were the first to be intercepted at a port in China.

After preliminary determination by customs personnel, all 32 intercepted scorpions were foreign species. After intercepting the package, customs staff sent it to the laboratory for identification in accordance with relevant regulations. After identification by the South China Wildlife Species Identification Center, it has been confirmed that 5 of them are the Smith scorpion (Tityussmithii), 5 are the Italian true scorpion (Euscorpius italicus), 10 are the Euscorpius cinnus, and 12 are the Euscorpius carpathicus.

The four scorpion species intercepted by the Ice City Customs this time have no natural distribution in China and are foreign species. If introduced to China, it will pose a potential threat to ecological and biological security. Currently, they have been processed according to regulations.

Customs Reminder:According to laws and regulations such as the Biosafety Law of the People's Republic of China, the Entry and Exit Animal and Plant Quarantine Law of the People's Republic of China, and their implementation regulations, foreign species shall not be introduced without approval, and live animals and plants shall not be carried or sent into the country. If the regulations are violated, the customs will investigate legal responsibility in accordance with the law.
