On October 11th, Qualcomm announced that it will launch Snapdragon X series chips with OryonCPU core, mainly suitable for laptops.

It is reported that Qualcomm is reshaping its PC product line. At present, Qualcomm's chips for PCs include Snapdragon 7C, Snapdragon 8C, Snapdragon 8CX, and others. The next generation of PC chips is named Snapdragon X series, which is different from the current chip naming and also means there is a fundamental difference from previous products.

Don McGuire, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Qualcomm, wrote in a blog post that the Oryon CPU is a huge leap in performance and energy efficiency, and when combined with the company's NPU, the Snapdragon X series chips will provide a better user experience for the new era of generative artificial intelligence.

It is understood that the Snapdragon X platform is based on OryonCPU technology from Nuvia, which Qualcomm acquired for $1.4 billion in 2021. Nuvia was founded by former Apple engineers who participated in the development of Apple's A-series iPhone and iPad chips. Arm Company has filed a lawsuit against the two companies regarding the acquisition and will hold a trial in September 2024. The outcome of the trial may have a related impact on Snapdragon X series products.

Another common feature of Snapdragon X chips and M1 and above chips is the neural processing unit, designed specifically for artificial intelligence processing on small-scale devices. The Snapdragon X launched by Qualcomm this time may directly target Apple's M-series chips.

At present, Qualcomm has only released the brand "Snapdragon X" and has not released specific products. It is expected that Qualcomm will unveil the full face of this product at the Snapdragon Summit at the end of this month.
