ACCC stated that Tesla failed to conduct necessary safety tests before providing its three keychain models and two illuminated threshold models, and failed to provide mandatory safety warnings for these products in accordance with standard requirements.

It is reported that Tesla has been fined a total of $155460 for failing to comply with safety standards, involving the sale of its ModelS, Model3, ModelX, and ModelY electric vehicle keychains. In addition, the notice was issued regarding the lighting thresholds in the sales of Model 3 and Model S sedans, which Tesla claims operate on "long-lasting batteries" (i.e. button batteries).

Button batteries can be fatal to young children, and Australian mandatory standards aim to reduce the risk of injury by conducting safety tests on products containing button batteries before sale and clearly warning them on product packaging, "said ACCC Vice Chairman Katrina Law. If these products are not tested before sale, they will pose incalculable risks to children.
