The historical origin of the Yunnan Tibet Railway:
It was first proposed by Sun Yat sen in April 1912 when he planned the railway industry;
Conception began in the 1990s;
The "12th Five Year Plan for Railway Development" released on December 20, 2012 officially began the planning and research of the Yunnan Tibet Railway;
On November 1, 2021, the Dali Lijiang Shangri La Bomi Railway was uniformly named as the Yunnan Tibet Railway.

The "12th Five Year Plan for Railway Development" released on December 20, 2012 officially featured the Yunnan Tibet Railway on the map.
December 2017: CREEC completed the feasibility study report on the Tibet Tibet Railway Section, which defined that the Shangri La Tibet Railway Section is planned to lead from Diqing Shangri La Railway Station to the northwest, passing through Deqin County, Xizang, Mangkang County and Zuogong County, and connected to the Kangding Linzhi Section of the Sichuan Tibet Railway under construction in Bangda Town, Basu County.
In August 2019, with the in-depth investigation of the Sichuan Tibet Railway, there were significant changes in the direction of the Yunnan Tibet Railway. The "Ranwu Bomi section of the Yunnan Tibet Railway" first appeared in the news, indicating that the original Bangda connection plan of the Yunnan Tibet Railway may need to be changed.
On November 8, 2020, the construction conference of the Sichuan Tibet Railway (Ya'an Linzhi section) was held in Beijing and other places. The news report officially announced the Bomi Ranwu section of the Yunnan Tibet Railway as a supporting branch line of the Sichuan Tibet Railway, and began work first.
On May 16, 2022, the bidding party "Transportation Bureau of Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture" issued the "Feasibility Study Bidding Announcement for the New Shangri La to Chawalong Railway Project through Gongshan". From the project overview, it can be clearly seen that the Shangri La to Ranwu section of the Yunnan Tibet Railway will move westward and then northward after exiting from Shangri La. As soon as the news came out, a stone stirred up a thousand waves. At this time, many people still believed that the Shangri La to Ranwu section of the Yunnan Tibet Railway would definitely remain unchanged, which was just a wishful thinking of Nujiang Prefecture.
However, in the second half of 2022, the Yunnan Tibet Railway Plan released by Kunming Bureau Group Company showed that the Shangri La to Ranwu section of the Yunnan Tibet Railway was changed to the Gongshan plan, with the route starting from Shangri La and crossing the Hengduan Mountains to the west, then heading north through Gongshan, Chawalong, Chayu to Ranwu, forming a complete Yunnan Tibet Railway.
In February 2023, the People's Government of Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture released information on the pipeline network, which showed that the Yunnan Tibet Railway construction project (via Gongshan plan) had received feedback from the State Railway Group's on-site research on the project's Gongshan route plan. The Yunnan Tibet via Gongshan plan was studied by the State Railway Group, and China Railway Eryuan has carried out engineering geological survey, measurement and other work on site, waiting for the work task to be assigned by the State Railway Group.
At this point, all the routes of the Yunnan Tibet Railway entering Tibet have been confirmed.
For the Deqin people, there may indeed be some regrets, but the terrain and geology of the area are very complex, and the ecological environment is fragile, which is an insurmountable barrier.
