Shanghai Metro Now Accepts AlipayHK, Enabling "One-Code Ride" for Hong Kong Tourists
On July 17th, Shanghai Metro announced full support for AlipayHK, the Hong Kong e-wallet. Users can now easily ride the subway by simply scanning with their AlipayHK app. This means Hong Kong tourists can enjoy seamless "one-code ride" convenience across Shanghai's 20 metro lines, including the Maglev.
This marks the first time Shanghai Metro has provided such convenient ride services for overseas e-wallet users, and AlipayHK becomes the first foreign payment tool to enable direct scan-and-ride on Shanghai's subway. Shanghai Metro stated that this move will further facilitate the travel and tourism experience for Hong Kong tourists in Shanghai, making them feel at home. In the future, Shanghai Metro hopes to introduce more mobile payment methods from other countries and regions, allowing more overseas visitors to enjoy the convenience of scan-and-ride services in Shanghai.
Previously, AlipayHK has been widely used in over 90% of public transportation in Hong Kong. It has expanded through the Alipay+ cross-border service to buses in Guangzhou, Zhongshan, Foshan and other Greater Bay Area cities, Shenzhen Metro, nationwide train tickets, and services like Gaode Taxi. During the Spring Festival, Alipay+ services helped AlipayHK to go beyond the Greater Bay Area, collaborating with Shanghai Jiushi Group's transportation card company to launch the "Shanghai Public Transport Ride Code" service, solving the problem of Hong Kong tourists riding buses in Shanghai. This allowed them to ride buses, ferries, Songjiang Tram, and the Jinshan Railway throughout the city. Now, with the addition of Shanghai Metro, AlipayHK further expands the exploration possibilities for Hong Kong tourists in Shanghai.
It's understood that with the support and guidance of the People's Bank of China and the State Administration of Foreign Exchange, Ant Group has partnered with multiple stakeholders to develop two solutions: "Foreign Card Domestic Binding" (downloading Alipay and binding a foreign bank card) and "Foreign Payment Domestic Use" (using Alipay+ services to enable direct scan-and-pay with foreign wallets in China).
Convenient "One-Code Ride" Experience
Shanghai Metro's full support of AlipayHK demonstrates the city's open and inclusive attitude towards international tourists. For Hong Kong tourists, this is undoubtedly good news. They no longer need to worry about purchasing transport cards or exchanging currency. They can easily and conveniently ride the subway using their AlipayHK app, enjoying a more relaxed and pleasant travel experience.
Alipay+ Cross-Border Payment Leading Advantage
The application of the Alipay+ cross-border payment solution not only provides Hong Kong tourists with a convenient payment method but also presents new development opportunities for Shanghai Metro. In the future, as more countries and regions join the Alipay+ platform with their mobile payment methods, Shanghai Metro will be able to attract more overseas tourists, further enhancing Shanghai's internationalization.
Looking Ahead: More Payment Options, More Convenient Travel Experience
Shanghai Metro's full support for AlipayHK is just a glimpse of the city's transportation sector actively embracing mobile payment technology to enhance the travel experience for tourists. In the future, with the addition of more mobile payment platforms and the application of more technologies, Shanghai Metro will continue to optimize its services, providing tourists with a more convenient and user-friendly travel experience, supporting Shanghai's development into a world-class international metropolis.
