On September 26th, Intel officially launched the Intel Xeon 6 performance core processor (code-named Granite Rapids), aiming to deliver exceptional performance for computationally intensive workloads such as artificial intelligence, data analytics, and scientific computing. Chen Baoli, Vice President and General Manager of Intel's Data Center and Artificial Intelligence Group in China, stated that with the advent of the AI era, the demand for higher quality and more diverse computing power is constantly growing, and the new Xeon 6 performance core processor is a timely response to this need. Equipped with powerful computing density, leading single-core performance, increased memory bandwidth and I/O, and exceptional energy efficiency, the Xeon 6 performance core processor can tackle a wide range of workload challenges in data centers. Intel is not only driving innovation in infrastructure but also committed to promoting the development of energy-efficient data centers from multiple dimensions, including solution development and industry-wide standard building.

According to Intel, compared to the previous generation, the Xeon 6 performance core processor delivers doubled performance, along with more cores, double the memory bandwidth, and built-in AI acceleration capabilities, addressing the demanding AI challenges encountered from the edge to data centers and cloud environments. Utilizing a modular SoC architecture, the Xeon 6 performance core processor provides a comprehensive product portfolio, offering high flexibility and scalability for cloud service providers, OEMs, ODMs, and ISVs.

In the cloud computing domain, Intel Xeon 6 processors deliver significant improvements in core count per socket, single-core performance, and performance per watt compared to the previous generation, enabling cloud service providers to effectively reduce computing costs. Compared to the 5th generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, the Xeon 6 processors boast up to twice the core count per socket, a 1.2x average increase in single-core performance, and a 1.6x average increase in performance per watt, resulting in an average TCO2 reduction of 30% at the same performance level.

Furthermore, in common data center workloads such as general computing, data and web services, scientific computing, and AI, the Xeon 6 performance core processor showcases remarkable advancements in performance and performance per watt compared to its predecessor.

Additionally, the Xeon 6900P series processors (codenamed Granite Rapids-AP), equipped with up to 128 cores, support DDR5 memory up to 6400MT/s, MRDIMM memory up to 8800MT/s, 6 UPI2.0 links (with speeds up to 24GT/s), 96 PCIe5.0 lanes or 64 CXL2.0 lanes, 504MB of L3 cache, and Intel Advanced Matrix Extensions (Intel AMX) with FP16 data format support. This provides MRDIMM options for memory bandwidth-sensitive workloads like AI and scientific computing, incorporating support for CXL2.0.

Remarkably, on the same day, Inspur, Huawei Cloud, H3C, ZTE, and Lenovo showcased their respective new products based on Intel Xeon 6 performance core processors, demonstrating its extensive application prospects in the data center domain.
