Zhuhai International Dexterous Manipulation Challenge: Embodied AI Technology Drives Industrial Transformation
From November 4th to 5th, the first Zhuhai International Dexterous Manipulation Challenge and Embodied Intelligence Industry Summit was grandly held in Zhuhai. The event brought together over 30 cutting-edge embodied intelligence products, including "spinal endoscopy surgical robots," "humanoid bionic robots," and "robot coffee machines," offering attendees an immersive technological feast. Through a format of "static exhibition + interactive experience," visitors witnessed firsthand the transformative and convenient impact of embodied AI technology on everyday life.
The summit showcased not only the latest achievements in embodied AI technology but also announced 11 major scientific research projects, covering key technologies such as "intelligent manufacturing solutions for alloy material die casting" and "mechanically dexterous hand assembly solutions for electronic component production." These projects were presented by Zhuhai's leading innovative enterprises including Runxingtai Electric, Yikoxing Manufacturing, and Zhixin Automation, with a total investment exceeding 100 million yuan.
To further promote the innovative development of the embodied intelligence industry, the summit established the "First Batch of Embodied Intelligence Innovation Chain Think Tank of Xiangzhou District, Zhuhai." Over 10 top experts and scholars from Zhejiang University, Tsinghua University, and the University of Hong Kong were included in the think tank's roster, providing intellectual support and strategic guidance for the development of Zhuhai's embodied intelligence industry.
In recent years, embodied intelligence has become one of the key hard-tech tracks attracting attention from industry, academia, and investment circles both domestically and internationally. It is seen as the next typical intelligent terminal after PCs, smartphones, and new energy vehicles, with the potential to bring about disruptive industrial upgrades.
During the summit, guests from various sectors engaged in in-depth discussions on topics such as "how to continuously develop and break through embodied AI technology" and "how to transform public life while empowering various industries." Academician Tan Jianrong of the Chinese Academy of Engineering stated that Zhuhai, as a pioneer in reform and opening up and a birthplace of high-tech, should seize opportunities, focus on talent cultivation and introduction, cultivate internationally competitive innovative teams, and accelerate the development of the embodied intelligence industry in Zhuhai.
Jia Jingdun, former director of the Torch Center of the Ministry of Science and Technology, believes Zhuhai has unique advantages in the field of artificial intelligence. He is confident that in this era full of opportunities, Zhuhai will be able to accelerate the cultivation of a modern industrial system and foster new productive forces.
On the afternoon of November 4th, over 10 elite teams from Hamburg University in Germany, the HomeRobot team in the United States, the University of Hong Kong, Tsinghua University, the University of Science and Technology of China, and Zhuhai-based enterprises engaged in fierce competition across three highly challenging scenarios: "robot parts assembly task," "picking objects from a cluttered environment," and "robot's task of organizing and plugging/unplugging tangled cables." The Tsinghua University team Ai&Robot emerged victorious in the "robot parts assembly task" competition with their superb skills and innovative thinking, securing first place.
The event organizers announced that Zhuhai will continue hosting the second Zhuhai International Dexterous Manipulation Challenge and Embodied Intelligence Industry Summit next year, with the first prize increased to US$1 million to further attract participation from top teams globally and drive technological breakthroughs and industry development in the field of embodied intelligence.
This summit not only showcased Zhuhai's leading position in embodied intelligence but also injected new vitality into the booming development of this industry. With the joint efforts of the government, enterprises, universities, and research institutions, Zhuhai is poised to become a core region for the development of the embodied intelligence industry, contributing even more to the global field of intelligent technology.
