The 2024 "World Smart City Award" was announced in Barcelona, Spain. Shenzhen, China, won the prestigious "City Award" as the sole representative from China, thanks to its exceptional achievements in smart city development, setting a new benchmark for global smart city development.
The "World Smart City Award," launched in 2011, is considered the "Oscars" in the world's smart city field. The "City Award" is the highest honor of the conference, awarded to only one city each year. The expert jury, composed of authorities from the Global Smart City Conference, UN Habitat, World Economic Forum, World Bank, C40, EU, and other institutions, selects the winner. This year, 429 cities from 64 countries and regions participated in the selection process. Shenzhen, as China's sole representative, advanced to the global competition and ultimately won the award.
As a key partner, Tencent has made positive contributions to Shenzhen's smart city development. Tencent was invited to attend the ceremony and witnessed the award presentation. Shenzhen's comprehensive smart city construction plan, which was submitted for the award, integrates a people-centered approach to smart city development, showcasing innovative achievements and excellent solutions in key areas such as enabling technologies, transportation, energy and environment, governance, industry and economy, livability and inclusiveness, safety and emergency, and infrastructure and construction.
In recent years, Shenzhen has fully leveraged the advantages of its local technology companies, accelerating the intelligent development of the city with digital technology and achieving the goals of "benefiting the people, promoting industries, and optimizing governance," making it a model for global smart city development. Tencent, a local internet technology company with roots in Shenzhen, actively leverages its technological innovation capabilities to create value for users, industries, and society.
In this process, Tencent has fully integrated Tencent Cloud's big data applications, management, and development tools to build a unified data aggregation and governance system, providing a solid data foundation for optimizing government administration and improving public services. Tencent TDSQL, WEDATA+TBDS, and other full-stack domestic software systems with industry-leading performance and stability support the massive data services of nearly 20 government departments.
For users, Tencent leverages the connection advantages of WeChat and Mini Programs to build the public service platform "i Shenzhen," providing high-frequency, lightweight government service channels for Shenzhen residents and overseas visitors, significantly improving service efficiency and satisfaction.
For enterprises, Tencent has collaborated with partners to build a bridge between businesses and the government - the "Shen iQi" enterprise service platform. This platform provides businesses with accurate policy dissemination services and addresses their various needs, contributing to Shenzhen's high-quality business environment that is market-oriented, rule-of-law-based, and internationalized.
Based on Tencent's blockchain technology capabilities, a blockchain infrastructure platform has been built, supporting applications in areas such as taxation, health, and housing construction. For example, businesses can quickly issue blockchain electronic invoices through the blockchain tax system, supporting urban tax governance.
For government services, Tencent has helped build the "ShenZhengYi" government collaborative office platform, providing a platform for seamless communication, sharing, and collaboration for all party and government agencies in the city, continuously improving government office efficiency and collaborative effectiveness.
Furthermore, based on Tencent's advanced technologies such as large language models and big data, Tencent has also assisted Bao'an District in Shenzhen in building an artificial intelligence platform, supporting the intelligent transformation of urban governance and government services.
On this international smart city stage, Tencent, as a representative of Shenzhen technology companies, showcased its global technological assistance and open ecosystem at the "Digital Shenzhen, City of Technology" exchange and sharing session. Currently, Tencent, together with 11,000 global ecosystem partners, provides secure and compliant digital solutions to businesses and users in markets such as Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia, America, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
In the future, Tencent will continue to leverage its three core advantages: self-developed technology, C-end services, and ecosystem connection capabilities, to continuously support urban intelligent development and industrial digital upgrading, contributing to the creation of sustainable value for society.
