Recently, the Chengdu High tech Zone signed a contract with Zhongxing Yuanwei (Chengdu) Technology Co., Ltd., marking the successful landing of the Zhongxing Yuanwei Low Earth Orbit Satellite Internet Laser/Microwave Liquid Crystal Phased Array Antenna project in the Chengdu High tech Zone.

It is understood that the team of Zhongxing Yuanwei Enterprise has been established for more than 10 years and is the earliest research team in China to start researching liquid crystal phased array technology. It integrates multiple disciplines such as materials, technology, testing, microwave, optics, etc. The product has completed 5 generations of iterations.

The team has the ability to synthesize and test liquid crystal materials, and has a complete small-scale production line. In addition to microwave liquid crystal phased array technology, it also has the leading laser liquid crystal phased array technology in China. It is one of the few high-tech teams in China that can provide mature and reliable satellite and ground low-cost phased array terminal solutions for low orbit satellite internet communication systems.

The laser/microwave liquid crystal phased array antenna project signed and landed this time has a total investment of 200 million yuan. The project will be based on the national satellite internet major infrastructure plan, conduct research and development, testing, and sales of low-cost, low-power, and independently controllable laser/microwave liquid crystal phased array antennas, forming a series of ground terminal products for low orbit satellite internet. The project products will cover vehicle communication terminals, ship communication terminals, satellite communication terminals, etc.

In recent years, satellite internet has become one of the key directions for the development of future information and communication networks, serving as a strategic infrastructure for national strategy and economic and social development. Chengdu has a strong foundation in the satellite internet and satellite application industry. According to data from the Chengdu Economic and Information Bureau and the Chengdu New Economic Commission, the core industry scale reached 11.31 billion yuan in 2022, achieving full industry chain coverage from satellite manufacturing, satellite launch, ground equipment to satellite operation and services. It has outstanding advantages in sub fields such as Beidou satellite navigation, satellite payload, and time-frequency equipment.

At the same time, a group of representative local enterprises have emerged, including Guoxing Aerospace, Mengsheng Electronics, Chuangzhi Lianheng, Xinglian Xintong, Xingkong Era, Kesai Technology, Dadi Quantum, etc. Foreign attracting enterprises such as Jiutian Microstar, 21st Century, Xinghe Power, etc. have also settled in Chengdu. At the beginning of this year, Chengdu incorporated satellite internet and satellite applications into one of the 28 key industrial chains in the city's industrial circle building and strong chain action, while continuously promoting the growth of relevant enterprises at the policy level to strengthen the chain and supplement the chain. In the first half of this year, the "Key Points for Building a Strong Chain of Satellite Internet and Satellite Application Industry in Chengdu in 2023" was officially issued, proposing to strive to achieve a total output value of satellite Internet and satellite application industry exceeding 14 billion yuan throughout the year, a year-on-year increase of 30%, and to preliminarily establish the development goal of an industrial ecosystem with key core technologies emerging and coordinated development of the entire industry chain.

The "Chengdu Satellite Internet and Satellite Application Industry Development Plan (2023-2030)", which solicited opinions in June this year, shows that Chengdu's main goal is to build a full chain and ecological industry development system with a focus on whole satellite manufacturing and satellite applications by 2025, strive to create a national satellite internet industry and application demonstration base, and basically build a satellite internet and satellite application demonstration city; By 2030, we will establish a satellite network with global service capabilities, as well as a new infrastructure for satellite testing, operation and control, and operation services. The comprehensive strength of satellite internet application services will reach an international leading level, striving to create a billion level satellite internet and satellite application industry cluster, and comprehensively build a benchmark city for satellite internet and satellite application.

Key areas related to the industrial chain, such as the High tech Zone, Wuhou District, and Chenghua District, are also being laid out in a timely manner. The Chengdu High tech Zone has released the "Three Year Action Plan for the Development of the Microwave and Radio Frequency Industry in the Chengdu High tech Zone (2023-2025) (Draft for Soliciting Opinions)". The action plan mentions that the Chengdu High tech Zone will integrate the microwave and radio frequency terminal applications to drive industry integration, focusing on the key layout of active phased array antennas, radio frequency front-end, frequency sources, T/R components, and microwave and radio frequency electronic measurement instruments. It will build a microwave and radio frequency industry ecological cluster with outstanding innovation capabilities, complete industrial chain, and cluster of chain owners, and establish the Chengdu "Microwave City" brand, Build a national highland for technological innovation in the microwave and radio frequency industry, a gathering area for industrial integration and development, and a demonstration site for industrial application.
