Microsoft Edge recently released version 129, bringing several new features and interface improvements. The most notable change is the default display of the sidebar: it is now hidden by default and only appears when the user needs it.

In previous versions, the Edge browser sidebar was displayed by default and included a series of application icons. However, many users didn't frequently use these applications, making the sidebar feel redundant. To improve the user experience, Microsoft decided to adjust how the sidebar is displayed.

Now, users can freely choose how the sidebar is displayed in the settings page, with three options:

  • Always Enabled: The sidebar is always displayed, consistent with previous versions.
  • Auto-Hide: The sidebar is hidden by default, only appearing when the user clicks on the Copilot icon.
  • Completely Closed: The sidebar is completely hidden, and users cannot display it in any way.

If users rarely use the sidebar, the browser will automatically hide it without sending a notification reminder. The Auto-Hide feature aims to minimize user interface interference and provide users with a cleaner browsing experience.

In addition to sidebar adjustments, Microsoft also announced that the crypto wallet feature will be removed in future versions. Due to its low usage rate, Microsoft believes it is unreasonable to integrate it into Copilot. The removal of the crypto wallet feature reflects Microsoft's strategy of continuously optimizing its products and focusing on user needs.

The Edge browser version 129 update demonstrates Microsoft's emphasis on user experience. By adjusting default settings and removing low-usage features, Microsoft aims to provide users with a more streamlined and efficient browsing experience.
