Xu Dong, Doctor of Science in Environmental Science, Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, is now Deputy Director and Senior Engineer of Wuhan Ecological Environment Science and Technology Center. For many years, he has been dedicated to the research and promotion of aquatic ecology. In 2015, Xu Dongyuan went to Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Sri Lanka and other countries jointly building the "the Belt and Road" to promote clean water technology and carry out "alternative science popularization" across borders.

In China, he boldly proposed the concept of "rural courtyard style artificial wetlands", which can transform rural septic tanks into miniature "wetlands" with almost no electricity consumption or later pharmaceutical costs, making sewage "clean", eliminating odors, and improving the environment.

He led his team to participate in the construction of the "underwater forest" in the Ezui area of the East Lake Scenic Area, using submerged plants to improve water quality. In recent years, while doing his job well, he has invested a lot of energy and delivered over 80 public science lectures, promoting the knowledge of "water ecology" to the public.

In the spring of 2021, Xu Dong contacted 23 young scientists in Han and went to Changyang, Yichang, Ezhou, Huangshi and other places at his own expense to deliver 35 science popularization lectures to local remote schools. Over 4000 teachers and students participated in science popularization activities.

With the support of his colleagues, he also opened the "Dr. Xu's Talk on Environmental Protection" column, further promoting the green mountains and waters of Wuhan through Weibo and WeChat, promoting ecological civilization and the concept of green life.
