Hubei Daily (Reporter Zhang Xin, Correspondent Liu Deng, Wang Junfang) On July 12, the 33rd International Geochemistry Conference was held in Lyon, France. Xie Shucheng, academician of the CAS Member and director of the State Key Laboratory of Biogeology and Environmental Geology of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), won the Alfred Tribbs Award, the highest award in the field of international Organic geochemistry. This is the first time in 45 years since the award was established that a Chinese scientist has received this honor.

The award recognizes Academician Xie Shucheng's outstanding contributions in the field of geological lipid molecules and their isotopes. The awarding speech wrote: Professor Xie Shucheng has made pioneering contributions to the application of geological lipids in the field of paleoclimate, developed the application of marine sediment, paleosoil and stalagmite geological lipids in the field of paleoclimate, and expanded the understanding of microbial activities in the mass extinction and major evolutionary events in History of Earth.

It is reported that Academician Xie Shucheng has long been committed to promoting the cross integration of earth science and life science, exploring the interrelationships between geological microorganisms and climate environment, and forming a systematic innovation chain from innovation in geological lipid technology methods to breakthroughs in theoretical understanding, and then to the expansion of new disciplines.

He identified information on the activity of ancient marine microorganisms from the perspective of geological lipids and explored paleoclimate change. His research results have been published in publications such as Nature and Science, and have been reviewed in separate articles by Science and Nature Earth Sciences. Since 2014, he has been selected into Elsevier's list of China's highly cited scholars, and won the second prize of the National Natural Science Award as the first and second completer respectively. He has served as a member of the Council of the International Society of Geobiology, a member of the International Major Science Program for Negative Marine Carbon Emission, and a convener of the Geological Discipline Review Group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, And editorial board members of international journals such as Journal of Cosmochemistry and Geochemistry and Geobiology.

The Alfred Trebus Award was established by the International Geochemical Society in memory of Professor Alfred Trebus, the "father of modern Organic geochemistry", to honor global scientists who have made outstanding research achievements in the field of Organic geochemistry. In the 45 years since the establishment of the award in 1979, a total of 36 scholars have won it.
