On July 16, the first International Basic Science Conference will open in Great Hall of the People in Beijing. On the eve of the conference, Academician Shing-Tung Yau, President of the International Conference on Basic Sciences, described his original intention and wish to launch the International Conference on Basic Sciences.

When it came to the establishment of the conference, Shing-Tung Yau said, "The most important thing is to unite the best minds in the world on the land of Beijing to sublimate into first-class scientific progress. I think the conference will have a very good stimulating effect on young people and domestic workers, so that they can soon catch up with the world level."

"Because for young people in China, if they don't know what the world's most advanced level is, their goals may be vague. When there are obvious goals, I think Chinese people are very diligent, and their minds are clear, and they will soon reach this level." Shing-Tung Yau said that it is very important to establish the Basic Science Conference, It is to show young people how advanced the world's most advanced scientific level was at that time.

How will China's basic science develop in the future? Shing-Tung Yau believes that basic science must have a great degree of freedom. If I explain clearly how to go with basic science today, if you follow suit, it will not go beyond my scope. This is not the goal of basic science. Basic science often aims to study and achieve the mysteries of nature. The mysteries of nature that I know are limited, and we need to explore countless possibilities ourselves. But I am very clear that what we are looking for is the truth of basic science, and we have the freedom to develop

Shing-Tung Yau hopes that by holding an international basic science conference, young people will change their aspirations and make them understand that the most important thing in life is not just for themselves, but also for academics. It is very important to find truth and discover the beauty of science.

When talking about the original intention of founding the International Basic Science Conference, Shing-Tung Yau said, Basic science is the foundation of Chinese technology, and mathematics, especially the entire basic science, is the foundation. Without a strong basic science, a country can never become a technological powerhouse. From a more ambitious perspective, we need to enhance the interest of the people in basic science. We need to promote communication between China and the most advanced scholars overseas, establish world-class knowledge, and build bridges for basic science knowledge

He hopes that with the holding of this conference, Beijing will be built into an important exchange venue for the world's top basic sciences in the future, attracting the world's top talents to come to Beijing for mutual exchange and promoting academic growth.

This conference will be attended by more than ten Nobel Prize winners, Fields Medal winners, Turing Award winners, Wolf Prize winners, nearly 80 top scholars with outstanding achievements in various fields, and a group of emerging young scholars. Academician Shing-Tung Yau said that it was the first time in the History of science that so many world-class scholars came to China to discuss knowledge.

"I hope that through such large-scale academic exchanges, I can make contributions to the development of basic science in the world. I hope that internationally renowned scholars, especially those with outstanding achievements, can strengthen their understanding of China. At the same time, I hope that young scholars and students can actively communicate with world-class scholars to set a clear goal," said Shing-Tung Yau.

The first International Conference on Basic Science will be held in Beijing from July 16th to 28th, with a duration of two weeks and the theme of "Focusing on Basic Science and Leading the Future of Humanity". At that time, the domestic and foreign first-class scholars in mathematics, theoretical physics, theoretical computer and Information science will gather in Beijing to discuss the cutting-edge achievements in basic science and look forward to the future development direction of basic research.
